Googlebot is Google's web-crawling robot. It collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google search engine.

It is not a rouge bot that sign`s up to your site, with the intention of hacking you, please do not listen to the silly rumours that fly around.

Of course some one might join your site under the user name googlebot, but please do not mistake the pair as the same.
