It still amazes me how people surf the net with out any sort of protection, i.e firewalls antivirus and anti spy/adware.
Some people do not see the point in these programs others are against them, but in my mind a computer that is left wide open is just ready and willing to be attacked.
There are many many good and bad antivirus programs out there on the market, i use norton systemworks myself but many i speak to disagree and say it,s not very good, so really it,s up to you.

The best FREE antivirus program that i have come across would have to be AVG FREE.
As the name suggest it is totally free and comes with no added or hidden programs, you can download it from HERE

Spyware
The best Free antispyware i have come across would have to be Spybot
